The millennial generation needs a pause button, because everything is so fast. It is hard to keep up with the new versions of devices, there’s more fast food restaurants than there was a few years back, everything keeps moving really fast and its exhausting to keep up.
Scrolling through Instagram is almost a chore because there’s a new picture every second, it’s hard to keep up with the news, there’s always something new to consume. It’s a lifestyle that has slowly crept upon us, and we may not even be aware that it’s affecting us. When we want something done, we want it done now! Sadly life doesn’t work like fast food.
I’m sure everyone reading this post might have had to wait for something, some people it takes days, for others months or even years. This blog post is to help you know what to do while you’re waiting, and also wait purposefully. Its very easy to become obsessed about something, and at that point it feels like nothing else matters until it is done.
So if you’re at that point where your’re trusting God for something; a promotion, direction, a new job, a new car, a baby, a wife/ husband, spiritual growth, wisdom etc. this post is for you.
The waiting season may feel vulnerable because all you’re left with is a choice of faith or doubt. Faith is never comfortable but it brings peace. Doubt is filled with so many ‘what if’s’. What if I never called back for the job? What if my promotion never comes, but you see doubt brings fear, and fear paralyzes you, so you cannot afford to choose doubt.
Choosing to have faith in a circumstance you have no control over is never a natural decision, it is born out of a revelation of what you know. So the question is what do you know? So while you’re waiting here’s what to do ( I did these, and they worked) :
Get a scripture
So a few months back, I was trusting God for a new job, I had options but there was one my heart wanted. When I walked into the building, saw my future colleagues, lol I knew this was it and I wasn’t taking less. I was almost sure I was going to get called to following week, but I didn’t get any calls until after two months.
I had to wait for 8 weeks, and it felt really long. Within those weeks, I realized that I had to choose faith or doubt, I had a second option so it made it easy for me to say ”even if this doesn’t work,” I didn’t lose.
Then I realized that faith doesn’t have options, if I had a second option maybe I really didn’t trust God could do it. Having a second option feels safe, it feels familiar and comfortable, at least I wouldn’t get so hurt if it doesn’t work out. I thought wrong.
I had a scripture that kept me going while I was waiting which was in Philippians 1:6 (NIV) – Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
I believed that God who brought the opportunity to me in the first place will complete what He started. God needs you to trust Him.
What’s your scripture? When the devil tries to fill your mind with doubt, whats your shield ?
Ephesians 6:16 – In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.
At some point all I prayed about was this job, all I thought about was getting this call. When my phone rang, I’d quickly run to pick up and get disappointed when it wasn’t the organization. I had to get over myself really, I mean I woke up thinking about this job, when I prayed, I’d always find a way to chip it in like God has amnesia. And then one day I read a post by heather Lindsay and she talked abut this obsession phase, and I decided that I was going to relax and let God.
I started praying for other people, I took the focus off me and then the call came when I least expected.
Stay in Faith by declaring words, envision what you want, but don’t let your life revolve around that prayer point. After I stopped obsessing about the job, I received the call.
Watch your attitude
Your attitude during this waiting season matters too, if your friend gets the kind of job you’re waiting for, do you get jealous? secretly hate or you’re sincerely happy for them while trusting God will also come through for you? A wise man once said that ‘you can’t be what you despise.’ Hence it is important to guard your heart against jealousy and envy. It may try to rear its ugly head, but cast it down immediately and remind yourself that you’re not that person.
See it and Speak it
Its never enough to have a positive attitude, start speaking the word over your life, and start envisioning yourself doing or having whatever it is you want. I started seeing myself walking the halls of my current organization, I saw myself going to work every morning.
It still feels surreal, and everyday I walk into the building, I’m amazed at how good and faithful God is. It is not enough to have a positive attitude, your words matter especially the ones you say you yourself.
There is still so much I want to say, but I’ll be keeping it short 😁.
I hope this post blessed you . What do you do while you’re waiting? I’ll like to hear your thoughts, contributions and even testimonies 😊, please leave a comment, and subscribe to my blog if you’re new . Thank you!
